Our Tour starts with a glimpse of Villa Torlonia, from where Mussolini moved on to the nearby Villa Ada Savoia, residence of the Italian Royal family, to meet King Victor Emanuele. After dismissing him, the King had Mussolini arrested as the ex Dictator was walking away.
Then we drive along the Tiburtina Way and the A24 highway, towards the last prison of Mussolini: the Gran Sasso Mountain. At Fonte Cerreto will see Villa Mascitella, where he resided 5 days. Via cableway or by car we will then move on to the highland of Campo Imperatore: here we find the D-shaped Hotel, designed to be part of a complex of 3 hotels (the second V-shake, the third X-shake, so to form the word DVX – latin for DUCE – visible from the sky), but the only one to be built. After two weeks of ‘prisony’, a bunch of alianti landed by the hotel to free Mussolini and take him away.
The cronichle of ‘Mussolini on the run’ is being told following the reports of eye-witnesses who happened to be close to the Dictator in those crucial days: carabinieri, waiters and sheperds. A look into Mussolini’s bedroom and studio, with its original furniture from the Thirties (kindly permitted by the management of Hotel Campo Imperatore) makes the Tour unforgettable.
